Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-two
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
“When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you. Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
“When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is set before you. Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God is near you.’ But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, ‘Even the dust of your town that sticks to our feet we wipe off against you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God is near.’ I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town…
“He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”
He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
The passage is long, but it contains important information for us. Jesus sent people out to do what He had been doing. We are the sleeping giant. The Body of Christ was not meant to sleep our way into eternity. You know, accept Jesus and then rest until we die and meet Him face to face. We were called to be a major threat to darkness. We are the light of the world; we are His light in the world.
Salt and Light-Matthew 5:13-16.
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
If we are not walking in our God-given authority, then the world is not seeing the light nor being exposed to God’s love. The seventy-two that Jesus sent out blessed people, healed the sick, delivered the demonized, shared the Gospel, and did as they saw Jesus doing. If the entire Body of Christ all over the world was doing what Jesus did, we would see some change the world. God is the most powerful being in the Universe. He created the Universe. We are backed by the strongest force in the Universe. We are a sleeping giant. We have been given tremendous authority in His name.
The world is looking for a human to come and save the day. Jesus already accomplished all that was needed. He gave His followers all the tools they needed to be effective in a dark world. We are not to be trampled over by life. We are dearly beloved children of God. We have been given more than enough in Christ. It’s time for us to embrace who we are, stop fighting each other, unite, and work with Jesus to accomplish the will of the Father.
Abba, I pray you would show us all who we are in You and why we are here in this time in history. Unite Your Body and send us out to change the world. May we be bold, courageous, and filled with hope in all that You will accomplish through us. Use us to combat evil in this world. We ask for Your protection over our countries. Protect us from the evil one. We bless and pray for those impacted in Newton, CT and all over the world by evil. Heal, restore, and help us. Thanks for all You have done, In Jesus name, Amen.
