The Point of Life, Jesus

The Point of Life, Jesus (What are we living for?)

Job 12:10 In His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.

Acts 17:28 Certainly, we live, move, and exist because of Him. As some of your poets have said, We are God’s children.

In Him we find all that we need. He holds life, the very breath of life in the palm of His hands.

The purpose of our existence, are you ready, is to know God, to have relationship with God, to love Him, to worship Him, and display His glory. We are also championed to reign on planet earth, the dominion He gave mankind (bringing heaven to earth). You may say well isn’t God a bit self-centered. He can afford to be self-centered; He is God. Everything that He created was designed to display His glory, His splendor, and His majesty. He is the Creator. No one stands above Him. Everything points to Him. Jesus is the point of life and the reason for our being.

Since the creation of man, the devil has worked diligently to make the point of life everything but what it was intended to be. The devil has presented man with the following reasons for living;

∙Knowledge (intelligence and the quest for superior knowledge)
∙Self (man must focus on himself and meeting his own needs)
∙Sex (and lots of it)
∙Relationships with people (they are far more valuable than a relationship with God)
∙The approval of people (we need their approval to be happy)
∙Money (the more you have, the better off you are)
∙Material things (we have to have the very best of everything)
∙Food (the more the better)
∙Pleasure (serve what feels good)
∙Talent (the gifts are to be worshiped and praised)
∙Ambitions (seek them, work for them), Work (keeping working until exhaustion), Status/fame/power
∙Beauty (if we are not deemed beautiful then we will do crazy things to obtain a standard of beauty or define our worth by someone’s standard other than God’s)
∙Youth (the younger the better)
∙Ministry (ministering to people and discipling them is a call of a follower of Jesus, but when doing for God replaces being with God, ministry can become an idol.)
∙Comfort (we want a life free of conflict, troubles, and adversity. Jesus told us we would face these things.)

If God is number one, there is no number two. If He is the center of our lives, then everything we do is for Him, and everything we have belongs to Him. When we leave this earth we will not be taking any of our houses, cars, family, friends, stuff, spouses, pets, money, etc… with us. Though our family members may be there, our relationship with them will be as sons and daughters of God. There is no marriage in heaven, no making babies, and our functions will be to love and honor God. We will be invited into a Kingdom where our role is to worship Him, love Him, be in relationship with Him, and reign with Him. This scripture reveals what heaven will be like, “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God,” (Rev 21:3).

The fact is, it is not about us. It is all about Jesus. It is not about stuff; it is all about Jesus. It is not about being comfortable, happy, and having all our desires met; it’s all about Jesus. He is the reason we are alive. He is what we are living for.

The point of life is Jesus. Plain and simple. If we make Him the source of our happiness, then we can never be disappointed. If we make things, created things and created beings, the source of our happiness we will always be disappointed. Eventually the newness wears off any new thing and we realize that anything we place in the role of God for us leads to destruction. If there is anything we say we can’t live without that is not Jesus, then we have fallen into the enemy’s trap. If our happiness is rooted in any other place, it can be easily shaken. He is our only true hope for bliss, King Jesus.

I hope that as we approach a New Year (2012), the focus is Jesus. He is the only reason for living. He is the point of life. Everything else pales in comparison. This world and all its troubles and bliss will fade away. All that will remain is His Kingdom where He reigns forever! It’s all about Jesus.

“Abba fill us with awe for You, the reason for life. Help us to keep our eyes firmly focused on You. It all comes from You. It is all for You. Thank you for what You have given us in You. We can never repay Your love. May we rest in Your promises, Your joy, Your hope, and Your wisdom. May we seek first the Kingdom of God and all Your righteousness, for there is where we find life and the true reason for living. In Jesus name, Amen.”
