Who Are You?

Who Are You?

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you: I have called you by name and you are
mine.”
Isaiah 43:1

Isaiah 43

Promises of Redemption and Restoration

1. But now, thus says the LORD,

who created you, Jacob, and formed you, Israel:

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;

I have called you by name: you are mine.

2. When you pass through waters, I will be with you;

through rivers, you shall not be swept away.

When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned,

nor will flames consume you.

3. For I, the LORD, am your God,

the Holy One of Israel, your savior.

I give Egypt as ransom for you,

Ethiopia and Seba* in exchange for you.

4. Because you are precious in my eyes

and honored, and I love you,

I give people in return for you

and nations in exchange for your life

The world offers many answers to who you are. The problem with obtaining identity from people is that they change their minds. One day beautiful is one thing, another day it has changed. One day the measurement of success is one thing, the next day it is something completely different. Even our own assessment of who we are is flawed. Anything other than the truth that our worth comes from who we belong to is a falsehood. Our identity and worth does not come from what we do, what we look like, who we know, who knows us, our family, our heritage, our intelligence, our past, what others say, our performance, what ministry we are involved with, our status, or any of the worlds standards. If we are linked to Jesus, our heavenly identity is a child of God. We aren’t what we do. We are who we belong to.

When we know who we are and what we have access to through Jesus, life gets sweeter. We have access to every spiritual blessing in heaven. We have access to His heart. No longer are we imprisoned by the opinions of man or our own self evaluations. You see all of us have a somewhat tainted worldview. Jesus lovingly sings a melody of love, acceptance, hope and grace over us. He says, “It’s not about what you do or others opinions of you. It’s about your relationship with Me.” This identity is the most secure. Nothing can separate us from His love. It is not easily uprooted because it is the truest version of who we are and it is God’s promise to His children. Christ in us is the most authentic version of us. So may our hearts cry out, “God let your eyes be my mirror.” Only He knows who we really are. You are deeply loved, chosen, forgiven, redeemed, adored, sought after, cared for, and the apple of His eye.

I believe that if every person knew how much God loved them there would be less strife, fighting, and negativity in the world. The truth is when we encounter His love and acceptance deep down inside it changes us. We become easier to get along with. It all starts with His love and finding our identity in Him.

“God I pray that any labels placed on us by others or even ourselves would be diminished by Your love. You are the only One who knows exactly who we are. We are Your chosen ones. May Your love permeate every area of our being so we accept ourselves the way that you do. You love us, care for us, and have great plans for our lives. Help us to believe all that You say about us is true. In Your Son’s Mighty Name, Amen.”
